Kalmi Vada

Kalmi Vada Recipe

Ingredients
Channa dal (Washed and Soaked for 5-6 hrs)- 1 cup
Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped - 4-5 tbsp 
Green chilies finely chopped - 4 
Salt to taste
Red chili powder - 1/2 tsp
Ginger grated - 1 tbsp 
Asafoetida - a pinch
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Chaat masala
Oil to deep fry

Method
  • Drain the excess water from the soaked chana dal. 
  • Now, in a mixer, grind the dal coarsely,adding 1-2 tbsp of water.
  • Take out the coarsely grounded dal in a separate bowl.  
  • Add remaining ingredients to the dal except oil and mix well.
  • Heat oil in a wok on medium flame.
  • Take small portion of paste and flatten it into round shape (like vadas) on your palm.

Kalmi Vada

  • Deep fry the vadas in oil till it turns light brown in colour.
  • Now cut the vadas in two equal halves.
  • Again fry these pieces until they become crisp and golden brown.
  • Garnish vadas with chat masala.
  • Serve hot with green coriander chutney or mint chutney or tomato sauce.
